PAWS FOR A BETTER LIFE 501c3

Mission Statement

Mars and Scott

We provide reliable, high-quality service dogs for veterans and individuals with PTSD and psychiatric disabilities and therapy and facility dogs for organizations in Palm Beach, Broward, and Martin Counties.

We house and train a small group of quality dogs that flourish through our unique combination of socialization, enrichment, exercise, and science-based training techniques.

We value human welfare, kindness, and transparency.

Program Description

BlakeHomeDepot2

Our dogs are acquired through adoption, donation, or purchase. They ameliorate the lives of people with PTSD and other psychiatric disabilities. We offer a turnkey solution to individuals seeking a trained service dog.

Dogs graduate from our program at 24 months of age. People receive them at no cost, although they may donate to our program as a courtesy. We ask that program recipients be currently in treatment and demonstrate a structured plan and attitude of willingness to use the dog as a way to get better and ensure the dog the best quality of life possible.

A program psychologist assesses the applications of potential receipients and due diligence is conducted throughout the process to ensure responsible placement of dogs.

Who We Are

Dog praised during training

Marti and Ben have trained hundreds of service dogs for people with PTSD and mobility, including military veterans. Air Force veteran Scott says of his dog Mars: "He is living a great life and taking amazing care of me. I can't imagine life without him."

Marti and Ben have also trained or certified therapy dog teams that visit hospitals, nursing homes, and public and private schools. These include Goldendoodle Charlie, a therapy dog for two fire stations; Nova, a therapy dog fat The Conservatory School of North Palm Beach; and Misty and Caleb, faciltiy dogs at Jewish Association for Residential Care.

Paws for a Better Life offers vocational training in dog bathing and handling for intellectually challenged adults every Monday morning.
